Instructions for body measurement

Regular body composition measurement shows how your body is doing. When you prepare correctly and follow the measurement instructions, you will get comparable results. Buy the measurement from Puhti’s online store and visit the measurement point without an appointment.

How body composition measurement works

A body composition measurement shows the amounts of muscle, fat and fluid in the body and how they are distributed in different body parts. The measurement is performed at Puhti’s self-service measurement point with an InBody 770 device. Order the body measurement online and follow your results in the MyJournal service.

A smooth visit consists of three parts: correct preparation, clear instructions at the measurement point and reviewing the results in MyJournal.

Preparation and measurement step by step

When should the measurement be postponed?

The most reliable result is obtained when you feel normal and your fluid balance is in order. Postpone the measurement if you have a fever, a stomach bug, or if you otherwise feel weak. Also avoid the measurement if you have consumed a lot of alcohol in recent days or have a hangover. When you feel normal again and conditions are stable, the measurement will give a more reliable result.

During pregnancy, the measurement is not recommended. Individuals with an implanted electronic medical device, such as a pacemaker, should avoid the measurement.

Results and the MyJournal report

After the measurement, you will receive a clear, easy-to-read MyJournal report. It includes key results such as body fat percentage, visceral fat level, muscle balance, fluid balance, body type, segmental fat analysis and phase angle.

The report includes a results interpretation section that explains what the numbers mean in practice. Follow your progress in MyJournal and keep the measurement conditions the same so you can clearly see changes.

Locations

For Puhti tests, you have access to Mehiläinen’s extensive laboratory network: about 75 service points in over 50 locations. Body measurements can be done self‑service at 24 measurement points located in shopping centres around Finland.

Body measurements

Puhti is not responsible for the InBody app; it is provided by the device manufacturer. You can still transfer results from our devices to the app as follows:

  1. Keep your mobile device close enough so you can reach it without stepping off the device.
  2. Perform the measurement as usual.
  3. At the end, scan the QR code on the screen to send your results to the app. If you step off the device, the screen resets and the QR code disappears.

Puhti is not responsible for the app’s technology, development or compatibility, and does not guarantee that results will be available in the InBody app.

It shows how much fat, muscle and water your body contains and how they are distributed across body segments. The report includes key metrics such as visceral fat (fat around internal organs), a muscle–fat assessment, fluid balance and waist-to-hip ratio. It also highlights asymmetries and muscle balance to help you target training and daily changes. Results are presented clearly to make goal-setting and follow-up easy.

Yes. InBody measurement is reliable when performed according to instructions and repeated under similar conditions. The method is based on multi-frequency BIA used widely in healthcare, and the devices are medical devices.

InBody 770 is a medical device (MDD/93/42/EEC) that measures body composition accurately and quickly using a patented method.

  • Measurement time is 60 seconds.
  • Measurement frequencies 1, 5, 50, 250, 500, 1000 kHz allow assessment of different tissues.
  • Wide operating range: weight 10–270 kg, height 95–220 cm, age 3–99 years.

In total, 30 impedance measurements are taken at six frequencies across these segments: right arm, left arm, trunk, right leg and left leg.

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) measures electrical conductivity – the varying resistance alternating current encounters in different parts of the body. Different tissues respond differently to current. Body water conducts electricity very well, while fat acts like an insulator.

Getting started

  • Buy the measurement package from puhti.fi.
  • Read the preparation instructions carefully.
  • Go to the measurement point and open the door.
  • Check on the measuring device that the ID and the mobile phone number are the same, i.e., DO NOT change the mobile phone number.
  • Clean the equipment with cleaning wipes.
  • Take off your socks and outerwear. The device will automatically deduct one kilogram from the measurement result.
  • First, measure your blood pressure.
  • Second, step on the device and follow its instructions.
  • Finally, measure your hand grip strength.
  • Step off the device, and the measurement will end automatically.
  • Clean the equipment with cleaning wipes.
  • See the results on your report. You will receive a text message notification when the results are ready.

Note! If you are an old user of the service (Bodymaja), you can also log in to your results via email at https://app.omabody.fi/login. This feature will be removed in 2026, which is why we recommend switching to the Oma Puhti service as soon as possible at https://oma.puhti.fi/.

If the grip strength meter is displaying pounds instead of kilograms, you can switch the unit as follows:

  • Turn on the power of the grip strength meter.
  • Squeeze the handle with half of your strength while, at the same time, briefly pressing the device’s power button (for about 1-2 seconds).
  • This action will change the measurement unit from pounds to kilograms.

You can purchase a body measurements from Puhti’s website. You can find all body measurements products here.

Puhti’s body measurement, also known as the InBody 770 measurement, is an advanced and precise method that provides detailed information about body composition. The measurement includes over 50 values that reliably and accurately analyze, among other things, body muscle mass, body fat percentage, fluid balance, and an overall assessment of the body, presented in a clear report.

Puhti’s body measurement includes three measurements depending on the measurement point:

  • InBody body composition measurements
  • Blood pressure measurements
  • Hand grip strength measurements

Yes. Puhti’s body composition report includes over 50 measurement results. Each result in the report is clearly explained so that you understand what the numbers mean in practice.

Bodymaja will be integrated into Puhti’s result report in November 2025. After this, you will see all your results on the Oma Puhti report.
